Overview

When the CCBU Rwenzori plant in Namanve added its Husky 1 preform and closure manufacturing line, Transients Engineering Services was engaged as the electrical sub-contractor to main contractor EMFLO Development Services, for end client Coca-Cola Beverages Ltd. The works were administered by Anderson Consulting Engineers (ACE) and FBW Uganda under a JBCC building agreement (Project No. 21062).

TES owned the full electrical scope — containment, equipment, cabling and commissioning — so the line had a single accountable team for the power that drives it, from first drawing to final test.

Power distribution

At the heart of the install sits a transformer feeding a synchronising panel that hands cleanly between grid and generator, an APFC bank to hold power factor under the line’s switching loads, and a main distribution panel breaking out to each machine.

Panels were dressed, wired and quality-checked before energising, so the distribution went live against a known, documented configuration rather than being proven on site.

The switchroom: twin distribution boards linked by an overhead cable-tray bridge.

Cable management & containment

Cable ladders, trays and support steel were set out to the real routing of the plant and dressed so every run is accessible and labelled. Disciplined containment is what keeps a busy production switchroom maintainable years after handover.

Switchroom containment and overhead cable management, dressed to the as-built routing.

Installation & termination

LV and MV cables were laid, terminated, tested and labelled against the schedule, then power was taken out to the Preform Molds, the SACMI machine, the resin dryer and the compressors. Careful termination is what separates an install that runs for years from one that nuisance-trips on day one.

Each circuit terminated and tested at the panels before being taken out to the line.

Commissioning & handover

Every circuit was tested and the installation energised against the line’s start-up sequence. Practical Completion was certified on 31 July 2022 and Final Completion on 2 November 2022, with the plant team inheriting drawings, test records and an as-built so the system can be maintained with confidence.

“Transients Engineering Services carried out the scope of electrical works subcontracted to it, completed and tested to standard as per the electrical drawings.”
